What This Role Is - and Is Not
IS: A build role - candidate designs solutions from scratch, not maintains existing ones
IS: Sales-facing - daily go-to data resource for senior salespeople
IS: Hands-on technical - SQL, Excel, and CRM integration, not coordination
NOT: A PM or BA coordinator role - we need a doer, not a meeting facilitator
NOT: Entry-level - must operate independently from day one


Hard Requirements - Do Not Submit Without These
Advanced Excel - (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, PivotTables, data hygiene).
SQL - candidate must describe a specific query with table logic and joins on the phone screen; 'I use SQL to pull data' is not sufficient
Financial services background - asset management, private equity, wealth management, or capital markets; pharma, eCommerce, and general consulting backgrounds have not performed well in this search


Preferred Qualifications
Salesforce - especially Financial Services Cloud; hands-on admin or integration experience, not just end-user (required)
Tableau - able to build and maintain dashboards independently (but not required)
Python or scripting experience - signals a builder, not just an analyst (but not required)
Experience integrating third-party data vendors into a CRM or data warehouse


Disqualifiers - Do Not Submit These Profiles
Excel limited to basic reporting or template maintenance
Vague SQL answers - cannot give a concrete, specific technical example (SQL is not required but if they have experience, I would expect the ability to communicate good examples of use cases)
PM or BA coordinators whose primary value is stakeholder management, not hands-on data work
No financial services experience
Resume is more than 2 pages or consists of dense walls of text with no clear structure - poor written communication is disqualifying for a role that requires clear daily communication with salespeople
Significant typos or grammatical errors on the resume - attention to detail is non-negotiable for a data role

Position Overview
We are seeking a Data Analyst with strong financial services experience and exceptional Excel, data analysis, and process improvement skills to support a business-facing data and CRM environment. The ideal candidate will come from a buy-side organization such as a hedge fund, asset manager, or investment management firm and will be comfortable working directly with end-users to understand their needs, resolve data issues, and develop practical solutions.
This is a highly collaborative role for someone who can bridge the gap between business users, data, CRM, and technology. The successful candidate should be a creative problem solver who can work through complex data structures, integrate information from multiple sources, improve processes, and translate business requirements into effective data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with business users and end-users to understand client data requirements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
Identify client and business needs and develop practical, creative solutions to address data-related problems.
Perform extensive data analysis using Microsoft Excel, including manipulating, reconciling, validating, transforming, and reporting on large datasets.
Use Excel heavily to add, update, extract, reconcile, and analyze data across multiple sources.
Integrate data from multiple systems and sources into the organization's CRM platform, working with different data structures and formats.
Analyze existing data processes and identify opportunities for data process improvement, automation, standardization, and increased efficiency.
Work with CRM functionality to add and maintain fields, improve workflows/Flows, enhance reporting, and support business requirements.
Partner with CRM/technical teams on Salesforce-related enhancements, including fields, Flows, Apex, and reporting.
Write and execute SQL queries to retrieve, validate, investigate, and analyze data.
Investigate data discrepancies, identify root causes, and work with business and technology teams to resolve issues.
Gather requirements directly from end-users and translate business needs into clear data and reporting solutions.
Support the development and enhancement of management and client reporting.
Perform data quality checks, reconciliation, and validation across multiple data sources.
Document data processes, requirements, workflows, and business rules.
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
Strong professional experience as a Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, CRM Data Analyst, or similar role.
Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills are required.
Prior experience working in financial services is mandatory.
Strong preference for candidates with buy-side experience, particularly within:
o Hedge Funds
o Asset Management
o Investment Management
o Portfolio Management
Strong experience with data analysis and data process improvement.
Hands-on experience working with CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce.
Experience working with multiple data sources and navigating different data structures.
Experience adding or modifying CRM fields, Flows, reporting, and related functionality.
Understanding of Salesforce Apex is highly desirable.
Strong SQL querying and data analysis skills.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Strong communication skills and the ability to interact directly with business users and senior stakeholders.
